I don't know who I'm more angry at. My government who has told us that this Canadian teenager was being treated "well" at Guantanamo Bay or the American government who keeps pushing my level of disrespect to further lows.
What in the name of God is this once 15 year old doing in a place like Gitmo?!! Take a look at this footage from an interrogation video that has been released and then tell me that he is being treated "well".
In parts of the video I believe he's actually begging someone to kill him.
As a Canadian living a country that supposedly holds human rights in such high regard, I am outraged beyond belief! This video will release a floodgate of this sentiment from my fellow Canadians, I am sure. Christ, this might even take down the minority conservative government we have in power.
Here's a quick diary for all those diaries now in the process of being written about how disgusted you are about all of the blasphemous posts about Obama caving on FISA.
Guess what?
Obama voted "YES".
He didn't abstain from the vote. He voted "YES".
He didn't filibuster as he had promised. He voted "YES".
He didn't vote "no" to a piece of legislation that is being called an affront to the 4th amendment and has significantly blocked chances at discovering the details of the felony that occurred in the last several years.
He voted "YES".
Now, please get used to the fact that people are going to be slightly angry here in the next while and will vent their justifiable frustration at this decision that OBAMA made.
Since our two birthdays come days apart, I thought I might share this little story about how the 1rst ;>D is helping the 4th ;>P with true patriots of your country that will stand up for what is wrong. It is a story about those patriots of your country that are brave and courageous enough as to not follow orders when they know first-hand that crimes against humanity are being committed under their country's flag in an illegal war by a (quite possible) war criminal.
I have got a very deep dark guttural feeling that sometime in the next couple of months or so, your country will be in the midst of ANOTHER illegal attack on a sovereign nation. This time, perhaps, armed with nuclear weapons. Regardless, it will bring on a world wide retaliation that will make 911 look like childs-play.
"Canada, It's not the party, it's the apartment above the party..."
"We're [America] down here all dancing, and they're up there saying 'can't you keep the noise down.' We're like, come to the party Canada. We're like, 'Mexico wasn't invited but they're coming anyways.'"
- Craig Ferguson at the White House Correspondents Dinner, April 26, 2008
My name is Barney the purple dinosaur and I am very grateful to be able to speak with you at such a wonderfully orange sight. By the way, I love every color under the rainbow.
Back when the Canadian Commission on Maher Arar issued its report, I had noticed that in this report it had stated that the Canadian government should be "more restrictive" of their intelligence to countries with "questionable human rights" records.
Well, it appears that the Canadian government actually listened somewhat to this report and now officially regards "the land of the free" as "the land of the torturers". What's more, the Canadian government now trains its U.S. diplomats on how to look out for torture.
The goal of the workshop was to teach diplomats who visit Canadians in foreign jails how to tell if they've been tortured. It also listed countries and places with greater risks of torture. The list includes Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, and China. But surprisingly, it also included the United States, Guantanamo Bay, and Israel.
It notes specific "U.S. interrogation techniques," which include "forced nudity, isolation, and sleep deprivation." The U.S. has repeatedly denied allegations by international groups that it tortures prisoners captured in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. However, U.S. officials have refused to comment on the Canadian list.
Two very interesting developments to this tragic story became newsworthy for me today. The first item was the newest amateur video evidence that clearly shows Bhutto being hit (or at least grazed) by a bullet in the back of her head / neck area on the left side. The other item has to do with some fanciful editing by the BBC of an interview Bhutto gave right after the earlier assassination attempt this year.
What this means in the grand scheme of things is for you to ponder.
WARNING: Graphic image / video shown below.
Ok. After seeing this FOX propaganda promotional video below (pay attention to the end), I could not let this pass (after I finished puking, of course). I have created a more "fair and balanced" version below the fold. If you like it -- uprate it on YouTube and maybe it will go viral.
I asked myself this question the other day when a co-worker of mine told me that I know more about American politics than she does. She used to live in Colorado -- now she lives with her boyfriend in Vancouver, B.C.
I think this is a valid question. Other than at this forum -- I don't see the outrage that should be manifested at this stage of the game. How can there be no cohesive movement to stop this madness south of the border?
You are the only political figure in the United States that I have ever considered giving my hard-earned money to. Your unfailing grace, intelligence, fortitude and passion in the past 6 years has made this an easy choice. The path your country has taken, led by an evil murderous cabal led me to this choice. The absence of any opposition party or an effective leader has made me almost give up hope for America. The threat of another illegal attack on a sovereign nation -- leading to a possible Armageddon has given me a sense of urgency. The fact that the Arctic glaciers are melting at an alarming rate is far too close to home. The fact that I need a passport to visit our friends next door reminds me how isolated you have become in this world.
And so, when I heard that you had won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, I found an emotion that has been evasive for so many years when imagining the once land of the free.
Recently on this very site there have been diaries which have pointed out that the gentlemen above -- an American journalism student and apparent self-serving "prankster" -- got what he deserved the other day by being uncivilized and obnoxious in front of a university crowd in Florida.
He was making an ass out of himself and wasting much valuable time for these students after-all. I mean -- there must of been a couple of hundred people there. He must of ranted and raved for at least 30 seconds. I mean -- how much can a civilized orderly person take?!!
Tazer the MOFO!! Yeah!!!
But I feel there should be more consistency with security at these high-profile civilized events -- especially ones where millions of people are watching live. The following is a short-list of people who should have been tazered in the last few years but weren't. They were wasting our valuable time in our pursuit of orderly conduct (and some of them were doing it in front of millions of us at one time!)
Since the good Senator from Wisconsin didn't leave a poll on what you thought of his diary and since Mr. Feingold's diary drew over 1700 comments (many of which we don't have the time to read) -- I thought I'd bring a certain....well....clarity to the situation at hand for the good Senator.
Please make your opinion known in the poll below (and recommend -- so the good Senator can also receive this "clarity")
It especially upsets me when we give people like Bob Schieffer a certain amount of praise for what any monkey who has a pulse on America could do. Whoa! He called for a withdrawal from Iraq!!
What a brave man!!
After how many hundreds of thousands of mutilated and dead bodies?!!
As I posted in that diary above, check out what Bob Schieffer had to say the moment before the criminal invasion of Iraq began...
